NAUGATUCK — The start of the high school basketball is right around the corner as boys’ teams across the Mountain State officially started practice for the 2019-20 season this past week.

Longtime head coach Garland “Rabbit” Thompson is back on the sidelines in Naugatuck this season after three years away from the game.

He has a solid core returning this season and expectations are that the Panthers will be ready to make a run at State Tournament in Charleston at seasons end.

The Panthers are set to scrimmage the Poca Dots on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Lenore Middle School due to the floor being refinished at the TVHS Gymnasium.

The Tug Valley Lady Panthers and coach Clyde Farley are also scrimmaging at Martin County on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the annual Zip Zone Classic.
