Williamson Daily News

The Williamson Fire Department hosted its first annual Flag Day Flag Retirement Ceremony last Friday at the fire station. Members of the Williamson Area Boy Scouts of America Troop 321 and Williamson firefighters performed a respectful retirement and cremation of more than 30 American Flags. These flags had reached the end of their service life and were entrusted to the fire department by members of the public for retirement.

The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 141 of Belfry, Ky., could not be participate because of a funeral service for a fellow veteran.

The WFD plans for this to be an annual event. It invites anyone with faded, worn, tattered or otherwise damaged flags to drop them off at the station at anytime.
