SOUTH WILLIAMSON - The Mingo County Executive Committee met Tuesday evening and unanimously voted to select long time Williamson District Democrat Helen Childers as a member of the committee. Childers, who also serves as President of the Mingo Lady Democrats, will take the seat of the Honorable Francis Crawford, long time serving Committeewoman, who resigned due to health reasons.

The Committee met for dinner at the Steakhouse in South Williamson, Ky. where it heard from several candidates who are seeking elective office in the May 2018 Primary Election. Among the speakers where 6th District Senatorial Candidate Dr. Charles Sammons form Kermit/Crum; Dinah Hannah who is seeking reelection to the Mingo County Commission; Williamson City Attorney Nathan Brown who is seeking a seat in the House of Delegates (20th District) and former Delegate Phyllis White who is seeking to regain her seat in the House of Delegates (21st District).

The meeting was attended by 10 of the 14 Committee Members together with many guests from Mingo and Wayne Counties.

Committee Chairman H. Truman Chafin congratulated Childers and said, "Helen was not only our Mingo County Democrat of the Year for 2017, but she serves as President of the Lady Democrats and is a tireless worker for Williamson and Mingo County and will be an outstanding member of this Committee."

The Committee plans to have several more meetings before the May Primary and will invite all the candidates to appear and speak.
