CINDERELLA - The Mingo County Board of Education approved the date of the public auction of the old Gilbert Elementary School property at its regular meeting Tuesday night. The auction will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16.
The school was vacated this summer after the elementary students were consolidated with Gilbert Middle School to form Gilbert PK-8.
The old brick building served as Gilbert High School in years past and then served as the middle school. When Mingo Central was formed by consolidation of four high schools, including Gilbert, the students moved to the current location.
The BOE also approved the purchase of four new school buses for the coming school year after a request by Transportation Director Joe Howard.
The board also approved a program by the American Association of University Women after a presentation by Jada Hunter and Dee Kapourales. The organization will work with local high school juniors and encourage them to further their education by attending college.
