Charles Edward “Eddie” Hilbert, 70 of Varney, passed away November 1, 2012, at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 30, 1942, at Red Jacket to the late Ed Hilbert and is survived by his mother Katherine Flory of Memphis, Tenn. He was raised by his grandparents, the late Calvary and Hattie Johnson.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by son, Chester Charles “Chuck” Hilbert and wife Judy of Sevierville, Tenn.; daughter, Beth Daniels and husband Danny of Beech Creek, daughter, Hattie Castle and husband Gene of Switzer; son Bill Sullivan and wife Sheryle of McCarr, Ky.; lifelong companion and former wife, Shirley Hilbert of Williamson; aunt, Maxine Ormiston and husband Alvin of Titusville, Fla.;, brother, John Farley and wife Brenda of Memphis; grandchildren, Meghan Daniels, Camryn Daniels, Brianna Sullivan, Katrina Christian and Ikie Christian; three great-grandchildren, nephews, John North Farley and wife Abigayle and Perry Lee Kennedy and wife Gloria Lee.

Eddie was a retired electrician consultant for Hannah Lumber Company. He was also formerly the owner of Magnolia Manufacturing and a former Sheriff of Mingo County, a member of the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge. Eddie’s favorite pastime was sitting around the kitchen table talking with his friends and family…all were welcome. He loved politics.

Funeral services were Monday November 5, at 11 a.m. with Elder Eddie Layne and theRev. Dallas Rife officiating at the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Johnson Cemetery at Varney. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Pallbearers will be Cpt. David Nelson, Gene Castle, Danny Daniels and Camryn Daniels, James Smith and Raymond Justice. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Justice, Sam Tiller, Charley Justice, Everett Hannah, Cecil Collins and Fuzzy Keessee.
