LOGAN – The Mingo Central Miners will be taking on the Scott Skyhawks in their first round sectional tournament game at the Logan Memorial Fieldhouse on Thursday night.

Mingo Central, seeded No. 3, will face Scott, seeded No. 2, for the third time this season.

The two teams split their regular season contests. Mingo Central let one get away back in December losing to Scott at the Madison Civic Center 61-60. They got some revenge when they defeated the Skyhawks 65-61 at the MCHS gym just a few days ago.

The Miners are coached by first year head mentor Brad Napier. They come into the game with a record of 13-9, while Scott finished with an identical regular season mark of 13-9. Mingo Central actually had a better Cardinal Conference and sectional record of (8-5 – 6-2) compared to Scott’s ( 8-6, 5-3) record.

But the Skyhawks, coached by Nick Cabell, got the higher seed heading into the Class AA, Regional 4, Section 2 tourney.

The winner of this game will take on the winner between No. 1 Tolsia and No. 4 Chapmanville.

The first game between the Rebels and Tigers will start at 6 p.m., while the Miners and Skyhawks game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.

The two winners of the semi-finals will advance to the sectional championship game on Saturday. It will also be played at the Logan Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.

Both teams will then advance to regional tournament play next Wednesday. Those teams and sites are yet to be determined.
