The pairings for the Mingo County girl’s middle school tournament won’t be known until after Monday night.

“The Gilbert versus Kermit game was postponed and that has a huge impact on seeding,” said Burch coach Jeremy Davis. The game is scheduled for Monday night.

Here is a breakdown of the county standings as of Friday.

Lenore (9-1) has clinched the No. 1 seed regardless of the game between Gilbert and Kermit on Monday.

Williamson is currently No. 2 with a record of 6-4, while Gilbert comes in at No. 3 with a 5-4 mark. Gilbert holds the tie breaker against Williamson because of head to head matchups.

Burch comes in next with a 5-5 mark, followed by Kermit at 4-5 and Matewan at No. 6 with a record of 0-10.

“If Gilbert beats Kermit, they will be the No. 2 seed and get the first round bye due to head to head competition,” Davis said.

“If Kermit beats Gilbert, Williamson is the No. 2 seed getting the first round bye and there could be a 3-way tie for third between Burch, Gilbert, and Kermit. All of which would have a record of 5-5. The county rules have a tiebreak system.”

“So some sort of tiebreak could determine the middle seeding after the Monday night game,” according to the BMS coach.

“So really, 2 through 5 may not be decided until Monday night,” Davis added.

The dates for the upcoming Mingo County boy’s and girl’s middle school tournaments have been scheduled for this week. The girls will have their tournament on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday – February 6, 7 and 9.

Gilbert Middle School is the host for the both tournaments this year. The boys event will be held the next week Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday – February 13, 14 and 16.

Both tournaments will be held at Mingo Central High School.

A consolation and championship game will be played on each Saturday. Awards will be handed out after the final game.
