WILLIAMSON — A Williamson woman was arrested on charges of obstructing, 1 count of battery on a police officer and 1 count of assault on a police officer the day after Christmas, following an alleged incident that is said to have begun at the Williamson Memorial Hospital (WMH).

According to the criminal complaint filed by West Virginia State Police (WVSP) Senior Trooper C.A. Douglas, Megan J. Mounts, 22, of Williamson, removed her grandmother, Delores Mounts, from the WMH at approximately 7 p.m. on the 26th without the knowledge of the medical staff. Delores had not been discharged from the hospital and was still undergoing treatment for her medical condition. At 9 p.m., the trooper located the missing patient and her granddaughter at their home on Retton Circle.

After locating the women, Trooper Douglas stated that he was attempting to contact Mingo County 911 to arrange for an ambulance to transport the patient back to WMH when the defendant began yelling and screaming at him and jerked the phone from his grasp. Douglas said in the complaint that the defendant appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the altercation.

Following her arrest, Mounts is said to have slapped the trooper on the arms while he was attempting to fingerprint her and also kicked him while he was standing behind her. During the defendant’s transport to the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden, Mounts reportedly spit on the back of the driver’s seat of the police cruiser.

Mounts was arraigned by Chief Magistrate Dallas Toler who set bond on the 3 charges at $1,500. The defendant was released from custody after meeting requirements and stipulations of her bail.
