2-vehicle accident kills 2, injures 3

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A two-vehicle accident in Ivel on Saturday left two people dead and injured three others.

According to the Kentucky State Police, Peggy Case, 53, of Prestonsburg, was traveling south on U.S. 23 with a 16-year-old passenger in a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix when she lost control of her vehicle. She overcorrected and crossed the median, traveling into the northbound lanes of U.S. 23.

Her vehicle was struck by a 2007 Suzuki SUV driven by Carl Ray Johnson, of Kite.

Both Case and her passenger were pronounced dead at the scene by Floyd County Coroner Greg Nelson.

Johnson and the two passengers in his vehicle were transported to Pikeville Medical Center for their injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by KSP Trooper Jonathan Dixon. Dixon was assisted on scene by KSP Trooper David Watkins, Sgt. Chris Hollon and the Betsy Layne Fire Department.
