Both Tug Valley and Mingo Central will have long trips to play their first round games in the West Virginia high school football playoffs.

Mingo Central (5-5, No. 15) will travel to Mineral County to take on Keyser (8-2, No. 2) in a Class Double-A first round playoff game. Keyser’s nickname is the Golden Tornado. The Miners will play at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night.

Mineral County is located near the Mason Dixon line where the Mountain State borders with Maryland and Pennsylvania in the eastern panhandle.

Perhaps the most famous Keyser High School alumnus is former major league baseball player and current ESPN analyst John Kruk.

Meanwhile, Tug Valley will travel to the northern panhandle. The Panthers will take on the Blue Dons of Madonna, a private school located in Weirton.

Weirton is ranked No. 4 in Class A and has a record of 9-1 this season. The city of Weirton is divided between Brooke and Hancock Counties and is in the Ohio River Valley. Tug Valley will play on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
