Chief Jackson said the BVFD was first called just after midnight Tuesday, and that the cause of the fire has not been determined.
“There was no one living in the house,” Jackson said. “There had been no electricity run to the building for months.”
He said the department doused the flames, leaving the site at approximately 3 a.m.
They were called at 8 a.m. to return to extinguish a rekindle, Jackson told the Daily News. He said the house was destroyed by that fire.
Neighbors say the property owner is Anita Wallace.
While firefighters could not save the structure, Jackson said, they did kept the fire from damaging nearby structures, which include a church. Three trucks and 19 firefighters responded to the blaze.
