WARFIELD, Ky. — A woman from Lovely, Ky., was rescued from the Tug River Wednesday evening by rescue squads from both West Virginia and Kentucky.

Garnett Preece, Martin County Sheriff, said Connie Webb of Lovely was reported missing by her family at approximately noon.

“They said she was acting strangely,” Sheriff Preece said.

He said it her whereabouts for the day are still unknown, but she was spotted in Tug River near 8 p.m. Wednesday evening, floating on a log.

Eric Sartin is the captain of the Kermit Volunteer Fire Department. He said the Warfield Department called Kermit for mutual aid.

“They called and asked for our boat,” Sartin said. “We put in at the Warfield boat ramp and went down the river.”

He explained Webb had washed up under some trees limbs that were overhanging the water, and the rescuers went past her once but some bystanders spotted the woman, and alerted the three Kermit firemen who were in the boat.

The semi-concious woman was pulled into the boat and taken back to the boat ramp, where she was transported by the Martin County Ambulance Service.

A Netcare Ambulance Service crew transported her to Highlands Medical Center. The victim’s medical condition was unavailable.

It remains unknown whether Webb fell in the river or jumped.
