Matewan scored on the Panthers with two runs in each of he first two innings of play, but broke the game wide open with a 10-run third inning.
Matewan continued with a big fourth inning scoring seven runs, two of those off of a homerun to left-center by Justin Bradford. Bradford went 2-for-3 for the game.
Jacob Staton picked up the win for Matewan, pitching all five innings, striking out eight Panthers, and gave up five hits.
The Tiger's Austin Reed had two walks, a single, and a double; Joe May and Cody Centers each hit a double; pitcher Staton hit a two-bagger and had a sacrifice fly; Garth Simpkins hit two singles, a triple, and had two walks; Eli Huddle hit a bases loaded single, driving in two runs; and R.J. Collins got on base with three walks and one HBP.
Tug Valley's Chase Baisden hit a single and a double for the Panthers, Cody Varney went 2-for-2 with a homer and a double, and Jordon Mounts hit a double and had a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
The Panthers' Dustin Marcum pitched three and half innings and picked up the loss.
Tug Valley will play Gilbert at home Monday, April 19.
Matewan (7-4) will play Mt. View in an away game Thursday, April 15 and will play Pike Central at home Friday, April 16 at 5 p.m.
