CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — An influx of census workers helped West Virginia cut its unemployment rate by eight-tenths of a percentage point to 10.1 percent in March.

WorkForce West Virginia said Monday that the addition of federal census workers fueled a gain of 3,300 government jobs.

Overall, the service-providing sector gained 8,000 jobs, while the goods-producing sector added 3,500.

Construction led the goods-producing sector with an additional 2,700 jobs.

The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 9.5 percent. The national rate was unchanged at 9.7 percent.
