After all the excitement and joy of WVU sending Kentucky home as I had hoped they would, along came Duke and put the boots to WVU. I guess 98% of Kentucky fans got their wish as Duke got the win against WVU. I just wonder how many of you UK fans were cheering for Duke Monday night as they were playing Butler.

Hopefully not many, and if you were how big of a fan could you be right?

I was sad to see the season come to an end for the Mountaineers. The worst part about it was Da”Sean Butler”s knee injury. It was really something to see a coach that seemed to care more about his players than winning the game. Even though WVU lost that game I felt OK about it. I know that WVU”s time will come soon enough. I can still sit back and enjoy the good feeling of WVU beating UK and that”s something that no one can take away… at least not this year anyways.

Was it just me or were the referees really bad in the championship game Monday night? How many players have to be speared like they were wrestling in the WWE before the refs could blow that strange silver thing they had in their mouths. I think they call it a whistle. Not that these refs would know that, and I can”t say it was one sided; it was bad on both sides.

Duke once again is the top dog in college basketball as this makes the fourth title for Coach K. Some people would say this was his best team ever. Now I don”t know about that since I”m not a Duke fan, but this team is very talented.

In other sports news that didn”t involve bad refereeing, the Reds opening day was Monday against St. Louis. I would like to tell you that everything went well and the Reds came out on top, but I can”t do that. Aaron Harang once again gave up four runs in his five innings pitched. Why Harang was chosen to be the opening day pitcher is beyond me. Harang has won only 12 games in the last two years. He pitched 184 innings in 2008 and 162 in 2009, winning 6 games each year. Lost are the days when he could win 16 games and pitch 231 innings, like he did in 2006 and 2007.

Monday”s loss I would have to put fully on the pitching staff, after giving up 11 runs, four from Harang, two from Mike Lincoln in the seventh and five from Nick Masset in the top of the ninth inning. Now the Reds hit well and put up 6 runs of their own, but they just couldn”t keep up with the Cardinals knocking around every pitcher the Reds threw at them.

Up next for the Reds are the Cardinals on Wednesday night at 7:10pm. Pitching for St. Louis is Adam Wainwright. Wainwright is 46-24, in his career with a 3.17 ERA, and is 1-2, with a 4.91 ERA vs. Cincinnati. Pitching for the Reds will be Johnny Cueto is 20-25, in his career with a 4.61 ERA and is 2-2, with a 6.14 ERA vs. St. Louis. Look for the Reds to extract some revenge against the Cardinals and Wainwright that hasn”t had much luck against the Reds.
