I love it when March Madness is this crazy, after all the upsets and Kansas being put out it leaves people wishing they had never spent that 10 bucks on the office pool. I bet if you were to look at the people winning those office pools it’s probably those who know nothing about college basketball and picked the teams by the color of their jerseys or because they think panthers are cuter than hawks. However, basketball fans, you still have a chance to pull out a win in your office pool. It is just not looking as good as it was before they started playing the games.
Now who would have ever thought that No. 3 Georgetown would have lost to No. 14 Ohio? Maybe the students or alumni of Ohio? And, even they didn’t really think it could happen.
But it did.
What about No. 13 Murray State they took down No. 4 Vanderbilt in what some have called the best game of the tournament. Then No. 10 St. Mary’s sends No, 2 Villanova packing. It was really hard to believe that there have been so many upsets. The one thing no one had to worry about was a small out of the way No. 9 seed putting the top seeded team out of the tournament.
Wrong!
It seems that No. 9 seeded Northern Iowa Panthers has taken this tournament and spun it around until it can’t stand up straight. Which got me thinking maybe people who want to expand the tournament might have a good idea. I mean who wouldn’t love another day full of upsets and last minute buzzer beaters, watching as the fans rush the court after their team just won a game everyone said they would lose. I know I would. You also have to look at the down side of expanding the tournament, say your No. 1 seed is playing a No. 24 it could get ugly. The one thing that the NCAA doesn’t need is teams losing by 70 points. This is more likely to happen than a No. 24 seed ever beating a No. 1 seed since a No. 16 seed has yet to score a win against a No. 1 seed.
Last week I talked about wanting to see WVU and UK play in the Elite Eight, both teams seem to want to make that dream come true. The only problem is they both have to win one more game. This could be difficult since UK has Cornell charging full steam ahead at them flying high after their two great wins. Cornell could be a thorn in the paw of the Cats. WVU doesn’t have it any easier with No. 11 Washington looking to prove themselves by taking down another high seed. Well let’s all hope WVU can get another win and keep moving on, also good luck to UK against Cornell they are going to need it.
This weeks trivia question. Who is the only MLB player to throw a perfect game in the World Series? Bonus points if you know what year.
New York Yankees pitcher Don Larsen in the 1956 World Series.
