CHARLESTON — Senate Majority Leader H. Truman Chafin who has always had an A+ rating with the National Rifle Association scored for their members and all West Virginia hunters today.  The Senator said it was his privilege to pass House Bill 4521 thru the Senate today.

He said this bill creates an annual exemption from consumer sales and service tax on the purchase of firearms in West Virginia.  The exemption begins annually on the first weekend of October at 12:01 a.m. on that Friday and ends at midnight on Sunday of the same weekend of every calendar year.

Senator Chafin said he was proud to be instrumental in the passage of this bill and he feels the timing of the exemption is “just right”.

“Any of our hunters who want a new gun for hunting season can use that weekend to make their purchase a little less costly,” he said smiling. “All those hunters out there should start hinting to their friends and family for Christmas presents.

“If it is a gun you want, that would be the weekend to purchase it.”
