10 arraigned in Mingo Circuit Court

WILLIAMSON – Ten persons were arraigned in Mingo County Circuit Court Friday, including eight accused of drug-related charges, and two others facing sexual and grand larceny counts.

The indictments were among 14 returned by the January Grand Jury that was reconvened Thursday for the one day. Several other sealed indictments remain to be dealt with in connection with the jury’s latest report.

Mingo County Prosecuting Attorney C. Michael Sparks appeared for the state in all of the proceedings. Chief Judge Michael Thornsbury accepted pleas from the defendants being arraigned, set trial dates and bonds with conditions attached.

One case was a holdover from the April 2009 Grand Jury indictments. Matthew Darryl Colegrove, 26, of Lenore, was indicted last year but because of confinement elsewhere did not appear in connection with his indictment.

Colegrove is charged with one count of grand larceny and one count of conspiracy to commit grand larceny. His trial is set for April 5 and he is represented by Kathy C. Sturgell. His bond was set at $100,000 ($5,000 full cash required) and he was remanded to Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden.

– Johnny Ray Dempsey, 36, of Lenore, was remanded to jail in lieu of $150,000 bond ($5,000 full cash required) pending his trial on May 18. Dempsey, who is represented by Mark Hobbs, is charged with one count each of incest, second degree sexual assault and sexual abuse by a parent.

• Other indictments on drug-related charges are as follows:

– Herbert Eugene Dickerson, age and address not available; charged with one count of delivery of a Schedule II controlled substance (Cocaine). He is represented by Diana C. Wiedel and was remanded to jail in lieu of $80,000 bond pending trial May 4.

– James Hosley, 56, of Williamson, represented by Susan Van Zant; is charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (Cocaine) with intent to deliver; one count possession of a Schedule III controlled substance (Hydrocodone) with intent to deliver, and one count possession of a Schedule I controlled substance (Marijuana) with intent to deliver. His trial is set for April 12 and he was remanded to the regional jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

– Norma Little John, age and address not available, was; represented by Charles S. West. She is charged with two counts delivery of a Schedule I controlled substance (Marijuana). Her trial date is May 4 and she was remanded to jail in lieu of $60,000 bond.

– Bill Mounts, age and address not available, was indicted on two counts of delivery of a Schedule I controlled substance (Marijuana). His trial date is May 4 and he was taken to jail under $60,000 bond. He is represented by Jerry Lyall.

– Oscar Roberts, age and address not available, is set for trial April 5 and was remanded to the regional jail under $80,000 bond. He was indicted on one count delivery of a Schedule III controlled substance (Hydrocodone); one count delivery of a Schedule IV controlled substance (Alprazolam); one count of conspiracy to deliver a Schedule III controlled substance (Hydrocodone) and a Schedule IV controlled substance (Alprazolam).

Roberts, who is represented by Kathy Sturgell, is set for trial on April 5. He was remanded to jail in lieu of $80,000 bond.

• James Evert Ramey, 31, of Dingess, is set for trial on May 10. He was represented at the hearing by Teresa McCune, who appeared on behalf of Public Defender David Foley. Ramey is charged with one count delivery of a Schedule I controlled substance (Marijuana); one count possession of a Schedule I controlled substance (Marijuana) with intent to deliver, and one count of attempting to operate a clandestine drug laboratory. His bond was set at $200,000.

– Jonathan Jess Coleman, 35, of Pilgrim, Ky., is scheduled for trial April 5. He was remanded to the Southwestern Regional Jail in lieu of $75,000 after his hearing. He is charged with one count of delivery of a Schedule II controlled substance (Oxycodone) and one count possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (Osycodone) with intent to deliver. Jonathan Jewell is his attorney.

– Only one of the 10 persons arraigned yesterday posted bond. Violet White, age and address not available, posted $70,000 bond.

She stands indicted on one count of delivery of a Schedule II controlled substance (Oxycodone); two counts of delivery of a Schedule IV controlled substance (Alprazolam); one count delivery of Schedule II controlled substances (Oxycodone and Morphine) and one count of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (Morphine) with intent to deliver.

Her trial is set for April 5 and her legal counsel is M. Timothy Koontz.

Judge Thornsbury attached conditions to each bond set. Conditions include such requirements as electronic home confinement; weekly randon drug testing by the probation office; no association with any abuser of controlled substance; benchmark drug testing by the office of probation, and-or other stipulations the judge may see fit to impose.
