An important event, not only for Williamson High School but also for the entire Tug Valley area, will take place in Williamson Saturday, March 13.
The world-renowned Barter Players from the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Va., will be here to present two plays, free to the public which is invited to attend.
The visiting troupe will present “The Scarlet Letter” at 3 p.m. in the Rose G. Smith Theatre at Williamson High School. The play is based on Nathaniel Hawthorne’s classic novel.
In addition, the Players will stage “The Fall of the Bard,” a play being proudly presented as the original work of Williamson High School Senior Caleb Stacy. The talented young man’s play won first place this year in the Barter Theatre’s student playwrighting event, “Young Playwrights Festival.”
This is only one stellar event planned this spring as Williamson High School celebrates its 100th anniversary. An all-classes reunion will take place June 4, 5 and 6, 2010 to observe the occasion and honor the 100th graduating class of the school. This year’s graduates will be special guests during the reunion.
WHS Principal Johnny Branch said the graduation exercises will be held at 7 p.m. on June 4 at the West Williamson fieldhouse. Branch announced he would like all former valedictorians and salutatorians to attend.
The Williamson High School Alumni Association has stressed that graduates are asked to remit their registration forms and fees to the committee, P. O. Box 55, Williamson, W.Va. 25661 no later than April 30, 2010. Registrations will not be accepted after that deadline and there will be no registration taken at the door.
March 1 was the deadline for submitting nominations for the Hall of Fame. Any time an alumni is in town, for a ball game, a reunion or just for a visit, they are urged and invited by Principal Branch to stop by the high school for a visit. He is anxious to talk to as many alumni members as possible during this school year.
