A weekend fire caused little damage at a local salvage yard, according to Williamson Fire Chief Jerry Mounts.

The fire was at Big Frank’s Salvage Yard, located near Williamson.

The Williamson Fire Department responded to a call shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday.

“There wasn’t much to it,” Mounts said. “Their employees were cutting metal and the sparks landed on the dry hillside, which started the fire. Some old scrap trucks were burning.”

The trucks were situated in a place that make it difficult for firefighters to reach.

“We couldn’t get an engine company in to the fire,” Mounts said. “We advised them to use their excavator to put the trucks in a wet area, some mud holes, so the fire wouldn’t spread.”

Lt. Roger Maynard and Firefighter Eric Pennington responded to the fire.
