Pierson Akers

Pierson Grant Akers, 5 months old, of Huntington, W.Va., left this earth way too soon, to be with The Lord, Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at his home.

He was born Sept. 4, 2009, in Ashland, Ky., the son of Brian Daniel and Heather Dawn Harper Akers.

He was dedicated unto the Lord at Apostolic Life Cathedral, where his mother took him regularly to church.

In addition to his parents, he is held in adoring memory by one brother, Jyles McKinley Harper Goodson of Huntington, W.Va.; maternal grandparents, Pastor Edwin S. and Sharon Kay Kitchen Harper of Huntington, W.Va.; paternal grandparents, Danny and Chestine Akers of Matewan, W.Va.; paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Betty Akers of Matewan, W.Va.; maternal aunts, Holly Harper Huffman of Huntington, W.Va., and Danielle Harper King of Mt. Sterling, Ky.; first cousin, Elliott A. King of Mt. Sterling, Ky.; as well as paternal uncles, Terry Akers of Matewan, W.Va., Shane Akers of Barboursville, W.Va.; and first cousin, Jayden Akers of Barboursville, W.Va.

Visitation was from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2010, at Apostolic Life Cathedral Church with funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. conducted by Rev. William F. Mooring. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va.

William Thorpe

William Jason Thorpe, 35, of McCarr, Ky., died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Ezel, Ky.

Born April 9, 1974, he was the son of Julie Wolford of Michigan and the late William Olgovia.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home of Phelps, Ky., Burial will follow at the Lockhart Cemetery in Vulcan.

William Gillman

William “Billy” Gillman, 76, of Wharncliffe, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born May 16, 1933, he was the son of the late George and Pearl Moore Gillman.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Ben Creek Free Pentecostal Holiness Church of God at Wharncliffe, with the Revs. Denny Many, Roy Lee Lester and Dwayne Cline officiating. Burial will follow at the Springfork Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the church.

Mounts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Annis Mahon

Annis Hope Mahon, age 81, of Woodbridge, VA, formerly of Matewan, WV, graduated from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at the Patomic Hospital of Woodbridge, VA.

She was born on October 15, 1928, at OKeefe, WV, a daughter of the late James and Lona Curry Miller.

In addition to her parents, Hope is preceded in death by her husband, Early Mahon, step-mother Ima Miller, and sister Romaine Miller Farrell, and beloved Herbert Bowen.

Hope was a veteran of the army of the Lord, having served in the Matewan, WV Church of God. In addition to her love for God she loved her family and took pride in being a homemaker.

She leaves to honor her loving memory and mourn her passing, sons Leslie (Jody) Mahon of Gillette, WY; Curtis (Sherry) Mahon of Summerville, SC; daughter Jean (Al) Mahon Villanueva of Woodbridge, VA; brothers Dallas (Dianna) Miller of Shreveport, LA; James (Janet Marie) Miller Jr. of Brandon, WV; Larry (Wilma) Miller of Claysville, PA; sisters Mary Cisco of Taylor, MI; Brenda Kay (Charlie) Kern of Claysville, PA; Judy (Phil) Perry of Front Royal, VA; Mina (Jim) Applebaum of Belpre, OH; Pamela (Jerry) Brooks of Croydon, IN; grandchildren Vince(Tiffany) Villanueva of Dumfries, VA; Rick Villanueva of Fredericksburg, VA; Michael Villanueva of Olney, MD; Michael(January) Mahon of Bozeman, Montana; Shawn Mahon of Summerville, SC; Heather(Tony) Mahon Hawks of Summerville, SC; great grandchildren Jasmine Villanueva, Alyssa Villanueva, Kivrin Mahon, Abbygail Hawks.

Honoring services will be conducted Sunday, March 7, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at Chambers Funeral Services with Pastor David Smith of the Matewan Church of God officiating.

Burial will follow at Mitchell Cemetery at Newtown, WV. Les Mahon, Curt Mahon, Vince Villanueva, Shawn Mahon, Rick Villanueva, and Michael Mahon will serve as pallbearers.

The family will begin receiving friends on Saturday, March 6, 2010, from 6-9:00 p.m. at the chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services of Matewan.
