Pike Grand jury returns 19 true bills

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Charges ranging from cruelty to animals to burglary and drug-related counts are included in the 18 indictments just returned by the Grand Jury serving the January term of Pike Circuit Court.

The list of indictments, which involve 23 persons, was released by Commonwealth Attorney Rick L. Bartley, 35th Judicial Circuit.

Three persons identified as Jeremy S. Akers, 26, of Belcher, Ky., and Justin B. Honaker, 28, and Tiffany Hannah, 23, both of Dorton, Ky., 28, were jointly indicted on a charge of first degree robbery of Care more Pharmacy on Nov. 2, 2009.

The indictment accused the trio of using or threatening the immedidate use of physical force on a person not a participant in the crime, in accomplishing the theft while armed with a deadly weapon.

In another case, Todd Ratliff, 26, of Regina, Ky., and Chris Meade, 19, of Ferrells Creek, Ky., were indicted on a Class D felony, cruelty to animals, first degree. The indictment states they intentionally participated in dog-fighting, and set two dogs to fight each other on Aug. 30, 2009.

#A 43-year-old woman, Sally Scott of Phelps, Ky., was indicted on two counts of assault, second degree, on Dec. 30, 2009. She is accused of wantonly striking Maggie Sansom and Mark Stell with her hands and feet and/or a dangerous instrument, thereby causing the victims to sustain serious physical injuries.

Other indictments are as follows:

– Travis Reynolds, 28, and Julia Holbrooks, 29, both of Shelbiana, Ky., and Gerald Honeycutt, 35, of Romulus, Mich., were indicted on a charge of receiving stolen property.

Reynolds is also charged with fleeing or evading police, first degree; resisting arrest; operating a motor vehicle without a license, and persistent felony offender, second degree, as a result of previous convictions in Pike County for theft by unlawful taking and second degree possession of a controlled substance.

#Holbrooks and Honeycutt are additionally charged with fleeing or evading police.

Travis Reynolds is named in second indictment on charges of burglary, third degree; theft by unlawful taking, and criminal mischief, first degree. A third indictment charges him with trafficking in a controlled substance, first degree; and persistent felony offender, second degree, because of prior convictions.

– Robert Reynolds, 34, Pikeville, Ky.; Theft of motor vehicle registration plate of decal, and operating a motor vehicle without an operator’s license on Dec. 15, 2009.

– Mollie Minix, 41, of Salyersville, Ky., is indicted on a count of theft by unlawful taking Sept. 18, 2009.

– Lanesha Newsome, 39, Pikeville, Ky.; charged with theft of identity, Oct. 26, 2009.

– Brittany Cassady, 23, Louisa, Ky.; bail jumping, first degree, Jan. 7, 2010.

#– William Ball, 34, Pinsonfork, Ky., burglary, second degree, Oct. 7, 2009.

– Betty Blankenship, 28, Phelps, Ky.; theft of a controlled substance, July 2, 2009.

– Paul Justin Young, 23, and Rory Arron Hall, 32, both of Pikeville; jointly indicted for burglary, second degree, and theft by unlawful taking. Young is also charged with the offense of persistent felony offender, second degree, because of prior convictions.

– Joseph Hatfield, 70, Hardy, Ky.; theft by deception, July 6, 2009.

– Billy West, 37, Pikeville, Ky.; assault, first degree, by striking James West with a ball bat, causing a serious physical injury; and assault, fourth degree, of Melissa Toasten, causing physical injury, Dec. 17, 2009.

– Joseph Cole, 28, and Keri Salisbury, 31, both of Harold, Ky., burglary, second degree, and theft by unlawful taking, Dec. 8, 2009.

– Shawn Patrick Rowe, 37, Ashcamp, Ky., bail jumping, first degree, Jan. 15, 2010.

– Scott Blackburn, 47, McCarr, Ky., indecent exposure (two counts); sex abuse, first degree (four counts), and persistent felony offender, second degree, as a result of previous convictions
