Virgil Marcum, 84, of Breeden passed away Sunday Feb. 14, 2010, at Logan Regional Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 12, 1926, at Breeden, the son of the late John and Sadie Wellman Marcum. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife and sweetheart of 55 years, Marcella Faye Marcum; infant sons, Virgil Lee and Roger Dale; brothers, Lon and John L. Marcum; sister, Opal Williamson; and son-in-law, Gary Ferguson.

He was a member of the Freedom United Baptist Church. He was a retired coal miner of 33 years and a U.S. Navy Veteran.

Those left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Sadie and her husband Quincy Deskins, Harriet and her husband Dr. Jim Gosien and Alberta (Shennie) Ferguson; and son, Lonnie and his wife Cathy Marcum; two sisters, Ruth Osburn of North Carolina and Eleanor Maynard of Princeton; five grandchildren, James, V.J., Miranda, Robert and Cody; seven great-grandchildren Joseph, Cameron, Madison Faye, Isaac, Levi, Parker and Bella.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Freedom United Baptist Church on Laurel Creek with Ministers Eddie Hatfield and Lonnie Ratcliff officiating. Burial will follow in the Marcum Cemetery at Breeden with military garveside services.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Pallbearers will be John Marcum, Roger Davis, James Deskins, V.J. Deskins, Robert Marcum, Cody Gosien, Alton May and Jr. Hannah.
