MATEWAN — CAM Mining presented Matewan Mayor Shelia Kessler and the Matewan Town Council with a check for $250,000 to be used in completing the Thacker Water Project Wednesday. Feb. 10. The project will benefit approximately 120 households in the Thacker area.

“On behalf of CAM, it is honor to present this check for the waterline extension project,” said President of CAM Mining Chris Moravec. “For our company, it’s important to be committed to our environment, to our employees, and also, to our neighbors.”

Moravec commented on recent layoffs by CAM after the check presentation, bringing more good news along with CAM’s donation.

“As a result of the changes we’ve made in the last year, we’re operating profitably and we will continue to bring workers back throughout the year,” said Moravec.

The completion of the waterline extension will not only benefit Thacker residents but it will also bring much needed revenue to the town of Matewan, according to Kessler.

“We’re all very excited about this and if it weren’t for the snowy weather, many Thacker residents would be here to show their support,” said Kessler.

Bids for the Thacker Water Project waterline extension will be made in the coming months.
