NAUGATUCK – The Tug Valley Lady Panthers scored a victory over the Pikeville Panthers Thursday, breaking a three-game losing streak, 63-59.

“We played much better tonight, said Tug Valley Lady Panthers Head Coach Okey Smith. “I just hope we can build on this and turn our season around.”

“We still miss Whitney (Evans) who is out with an injury, but the girls picked up the slack tonight and played perhaps our best game of the season,” continued Coach Smith. “I thought that Hailee Ward and Courtney Southers played their best game of the season and Tabby was outstanding shooting the ball.”

“I thought our bench play from Paige Runyon, Delena Smith, Desrae Smith and Amber Linville was solid tonight and played a big part in the win. Elizabeth Evans played a very smart floor game and fed the ball to the others all night,”

Tabby Mounts led Tug Valley with the game high of 24 points. Mounts also grabbed 6 rebounds and had 3 steals during TVHS’ win.

Also scoring for Tug Valley was: Elizabeth Evans 11 pts, 4 steals, and 6 assists; Hailee Ward with 11 points and 3 assists; Courtney Southers scored 8 points and had 6 rebounds; Karah Sheppard had 3 pts and 5 rebounds; Paige Runyon 3 points and 4 rebounds; Delena Smith 2 points and 2 rebounds; and Desrae Vance 1 points and 2 steals.

Scoring for the Pikeville Lady Panthers was: Lauren Lawson leading Pikeville with 19 points, Lesley Fransisco with 17 points, Rachel Potter with 8 points, Lindsey Isner with 6 points, Rachel Smith with 5 points, and Rachel Downey with 4 points.

The Tug Valley Lady Panthers (5-8) will play the Burch Lady Bulldogs Saturday Jan. 30 at 3:30 with weather permitting. The game will be played at the Williamson Field House and will be the first of three games played with the Tug Valley boys taking on the Tolsia Rebels in junior varsity and varsity action at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The Pikeville Lady Panthers (10-7) will play East Ridge in an away game Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and will then play the Belfry Lady Pirates at home Monday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m.
