CHARLESTON (AP) — Count on crowds indoors and out when Massey Energy chief Don Blank-enship meets celebrity attorney Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for a debate.

A pro-coal “Stand up for Jobs” rally is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, before the debate at the University of Charleston.

Massey Energy spokesman Jeff Gillenwater says the Richmond, Va.-based company is encouraging its members to attend the rally.

Kennedy and Blankenship will debate mountaintop removal mining before about 950 hand-picked spectators, with an overflow gymnasium set to house up to 2,000 more.

They’ll spar over what’s at stake if the regulators restrict the practice of extracting coal by flat-topping mountains and filling valleys with rock and dirt.
