MARTINSBURG (AP) — Berkeley County authorities say a camera hidden inside an ambulance helped them nab a paramedic accused of stealing prescription painkillers from patients.

Among the alleged victims was a blind woman and a man suffering a heart attack.

Thirty-four-year-old Tracey Jo Wise of Berkeley Springs is free on bail. She was arraigned Tuesday in Berkeley County Magistrate Court on two felony counts of fraudulently obtaining a controlled substance.

Sheriff’s deputies began investigating in mid-December after Wise’s partner became suspicious and reported her.

The pair work for the Berkeley County Ambulance Authority.

If convicted, Wise faces as many as eight years in prison.

Court records do not list an attorney for Wise.
