PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Beginning today, KY 40 between Sheldon Clark High School and KY 2032 will be reduced to one lane, according to Matthew Moore, Section Engineer for Highway District 12.
Moore said that a rock outcropping along the road will be notched back to improve sight distance.
“This project is being paid for by the Federal Highway Administration’s Highway Safety Improve-ment Program,” he explained.
Traffic will continue to move at all times, but signs and flaggers will direct motorists in taking turns since the two-lane road will have only one lane open to vehicles, he said. The work is set for 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“Two weeks means 10 working days,” Moore said. “If we have snow or rain or some other event that prevents the contractor from working, it may actually take longer than two weeks.”
Jigsaw is the contractor for in the project. Highway District 12 maintenance specialists will also be working at the site, which is a construction work zone. Motorists should slow down when approaching the area.
“There will be workers on the roadway, so we want everyone to stay alert and not be in a hurry,” Moore said.
