CHARLESTON (AP) — West Virginians interested in running for office this year can show their intentions as the candidate filing period opened Monday.

Secretary of State Natalie Tennant says the filing period runs through Saturday, Jan. 30.

Unlike previous elections, Tennant’s office now handles candidate filings for single-county districts in the state Legislature.

All 100 seats in the House of Delegates and half the 34-member Senate are on the ballot this year. So are West Virginia’s three seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

An array of other offices are up for election, including county commission, clerk and board of education.

All candidates must hand in their filings or have them postmarked by midnight Jan. 30. West Virginia’s primary is Tuesday, May 11.
