PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The majority of the 79 restaurants and other eating establishments inspected by the Pike County Health Department during December 2009 was in compliance with health department guidelines.

Four of the group with perfect scores of 100 percent were identified as Blackberry Senior Citizens Center at McCarr; Caroline’s Catering, Phelps; Model City Day Care on Bank Street, and Snack Shack at Elkhorn City.

Health department inspections involved checking on food storage, preparations, personnel, restrooms, water and other health conditions. Scores of 85 to 100 percent indicate compliance with healh guidelines.

Five establishments had scores between 70 percent and 84 percent, which means they must be reinspected within 30 days. If problems have not been corrected, they face possible closure.

#Certain conditions and practices are considered potentially serious threats to the public’s health and some of these continue to cause establishments’ markdowns on grades despite repeated citations of violations.
