Tax credit available to some W.Va. seniors
CHARLESTON (AP) — Tax Commissioner Christo-pher G. Morris is reminding West Virginians who want to claim the senior citizens’ personal income tax credit to file a state tax return.
Morris said personal income tax returns will enable the tax department to provide the refundable tax credit more efficiently.
The personal income tax credit is for taxes paid on property in which the first $20,000 of assessed value is exempt under the homestead exemption.
In addition to qualifying for the homestead exemption, seniors also must pay some property tax on the home.
Their federal adjusted gross income also must meet the low income test.
