Lady Lions on a roll with three win streak

GILBERT - The Gilbert Lady Lions roll on into the new year with three wins in three nights, Dec. 28 through Dec. 30.

Their first win of the season came over the Mt. View Lady Golden Knights at Iaeger Dec. 28 in a decisive victory of 65-32.

Gilbert's scorers in that game were: Danielle Butcher with 16 points, Crystal Lester with 14, Keasha Browning with nine, Danielle Browning with eight, Brittani Kirk and Chrissy Farmer each had six points, and Kalenia Ellis scored four.

Scorers for Mt. View during the Dec. 28 game were: Kanisha Cleage with 14 points, Jordan Younger with eight, Ashleigh Belfiore with five, Tonya Howerton with three, and Shamecca Perkins with two.

The Lady Lions came up victorious on the next two nights during the Mollette Murphy Invitiational Tournament, defeating the Iaeger Lady Cubs 65-60 the first night and the Williamson Lady Wolfpack, 82-36.

In the victory against Iaeger, Crystal Lester scored 23 points, Danielle Butcher scored 19, Keasha Browning scored 14, Brittani Kirk had five points, and Briana New had four.

Iaeger had eight scorers with Ashley Gibson leading the Lady Cubs with 14 points.

On the final night of the tournament, Gilbert senior Lester almost out-scored the opposing Williamson's 36 points on her own, scoring 34 of the Lady Lions' 82 points on four field goals, six three-pointers, and 8 of 14 shots sunk from the free throw line. Danielle Butcher scored 14 for the Lady Lions and Keasha Browning scored 13, three of them three-pointers.

The Lady Wolfpack's scorers for the Dec. 30 game were: Jessica Fields with 11 points, Devan Maynard with 9, Mackenzie Stapleton with 5, Olivia Banks with 4, Jessica Sanger and Elizabeth Wells with 3 a piece, and Mariah Dotson with 1 point.

The Gilbert Lady Lions' will take their 3-2 record into three game stretch played at home against Man Jan. 6 at 7 p.m., Burch Jan. 8 at 6 p.m., and Westside Jan. 13 at 7 p.m.
