Roberta Scott, 85 formerly of Phelps, Ky., departed this life Dec. 30, 2009 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky.

She resided with her daughter Tammy, son-in-law Donnie and grandson Chace Keaton Layne in Winchester, Ky.

She was a kind and deeply devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was a member of the Peter Creek Presbyterian Church.

She was born Jan. 12, 1924, the daughter of the late Floyd and Ella Wolford Whitt.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Burl; two sons: Bobby and George; three brothers and three sisters.

In addition to her daughter Tammy, of which she made her home, she is survived by her children: Sylvia Dotson of Pikeville, Ky., Ervin (Dailene) Scott of Jeffersonville, Ky., Charlene (Daryl) Baker of Wellington, Ky., Pam (Rick) Kelley of Springfield, Ohio; daughter-in-laws: Stella Scott of Freeburn, Ky. and Helen Scott of Bradenton, Fla.; loving grandchildren: Ramona Dodd, Denisa New, Mitch, Kevin, and Christopher Scott, Sherry Spradlin, Steven and Rodney Dotson, Tommy Scott, Debbie Varney, Regina Lell, Robbie Baker, Ricky Kelley, Kristy Schaffer, and Doug Baird; and 33 enjoyable great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, 2010 at the Peter Creek Presbyterian Church. A celebration of her life will be presented by Rev. Opie Harris and friends at the church Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010 at the church with James Hager and J.T. Charles officiating. A tribute of her life has been written by the beloved Rev. Dewitt Furrow. Burial will follow in the family cemetery at Phelps, Ky. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Arrangements are under the direction of the R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home of Phelps, Ky.
