FRANFORT, Ky. (AP) — Gov. Steve Beshear says Kentucky could be facing a budget shortfall of more than $1.5 billion over the next two years.

The Democratic governor said that is his administration’s best estimate based on the latest revenue projections.

Beshear and his staff have been working on ways to balance the current budget in the face of an estimated $100 million shortfall. They face the additional task of developing a spending plan for the upcoming two-year budget cycle. That plan will be presented to lawmakers in January.
