DELBARTON — The Delbarton Opry House has taken time from performances to help those who have been affected by the snow, which caused approximately 20,000 power outages throughout Mingo County. The shelter will continue to provide sleeping quarters and food throughout the Christmas holiday. They will serve meals from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily on Thursday and Friday, and shelter officials say longer if needed.

According to Mont Crum, who is overseeing the shelter along with Joe Crum, they have fed approximately 1,000 people, serving around 91 on Wednesday alone.

The Mingo County Commission is providing funding for the shelter, purchasing food and supplies and the Red Cross has also offered a helping hand.

The Mingo County Board of Education has donated food that was on hand for students, and area churches have also chipped donating supplies to the shelter.

“The community has really pitched in and came together to make this shelter possible,” said Dana Crum, a volunteer at the shelter. “We have housed around 20 people and are serving breakfast and dinner.”

“The Mingo County Commission has been a great help to us,” said Crum. “David Baisden, Hootie Smith and John Mark Hubbard have been great help.”

Anyone in the community is welcome to visit the shelter for help, for more information contact Delbarton Town Hall at (304) 475-3359.
