According to reports by the Pikeville Police Department, Burton Bentley, 92, of Regina, Ky., was taken to the Pikeville Medical Center and later transported to the University of Kentucky’s Chandler Medical Center for treatment of injuries he sustained in the incident.
As a result of the accident, Homer Mullins 46, of Freeburn, Ky., and his passenger, Samantha Mullins, 38, of Pikeville, are currently being detained at the Pike County Dentention Center, the release said.
PPD officers charged Homer Mullins with first-degree assault, driving under the influence, expired plates, expired registration and no insurance.
Samantha Mullins is charged with public intoxication, second- and third-degree possession of controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia. Officials said she also has three outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court.
Jail authorities said the two have been seen by a pre-trial court services case worker, however, a bond had not bee set as of presstime.
Patrolmen Tim Roberts, Scotty Hamilton and Tony Conn are investigating the accident.
The officers were assisted at the scene by the Pikeville Fire and EMS Department.
