The agency said Friday the 2009 kill during the two-week season totaled 62,491 bucks. That’s down from 67,365 in 2008.
DNR is blaming lower kills in northern and northeastern counties, where the number of bucks taken dropped. The agency says kill totals remained about the same as last year in the rest of the state.
Overall, hunters killed more bucks this year than a year ago in 16 counties. The total dropped in 35 other counties.
Hunters can still head to the woods for various antlerless and muzzleloader seasons this month.
