Jefferson W. “Woody” Smith 84, of Belfry, Ky., passed away Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital Emergency Room.

Woody was born May 27, 1925 at Stone, Ky., to the late Lafe B. Smith and Polly Williamson Smith. He is also preceded in death by one son; Stan Smith and one sister; Marie Smith Emma.

Woody was a retired insurance agent and owner of Belfry Insurance Agency, a veteran of WW II serving in the U. S. Army Air Corps as a Ball Turrent Gunner on a B17, completing 34 missions in the European Theater, he was a member of the Belfry United Methodist Church, a member of Belfry D.A.V. Chapter #141 and helped organize the First Lions Club on Pond Creek.

Woody is survived by his wife; Loraine H, Smith, one brother; Orison Smith of Anaheim, Calif., one nephew; Eugene Hunt of London, Ky., one great nephew; Joel Varney of Woodland Hills, Calif., special friends; Bruce and Shelia Roberts, Kristie (Timmy) Adkins, Peyton (Nicole) Roberts, Madison Adkins, Ben Adkins, Timmy Todd Adkins and Brady Roberts and a host of other friends.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. till 9 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 2 at Belfry United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday Dec. 3 at Belfry United Methodist Church with Mike Stanley and Harles Ray officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky., with Belfry D.A.V. Chapter #141 having graveside seervice. Pallbearers will be Peyton Roberts, Ben Trout, Jim Hunt, John Hunt, Gary Hensley, Shane Hensley, Jimmy Hunt, Johnny Hunt and Nick Hunt.
