To the editor:

In regards to the TransGas Development, LLC (TransGas) permit to construct a coal-to-gasoline facility in Mingo County, it will help develop and diversify the economy of Southern, West Virginia. The coal-to-gasoline plant will not only provide jobs to the local economies but it will help secure coal’s place in America’s future. It is of extreme importance that the permits be issued for this plant because West Virginia has a chance to be one of the leaders when it comes to America’s energy independence. We believe that this project will provide the anchor for the evolution of the regional economy beyond simply resource extraction into resource transformation. This project will have “trickle down” effects that will affect all of the West Virginia economy. Furthermore, it will provide a blueprint model for others to follow while working to decrease America’s reliance on foreign oil.  

The TransGas Company developers alongside the Mingo County Commission and Mingo County Redevelopment Authority have done an excellent job designing this project that not only respects our regions environmental assets but protects them. It is vital that the permit be issued for this project so Mingo County and Southern, West Virginia can continue to play a role in West Virginia’s future. West Virginia has a chance to really shine and make a difference but it cannot happen without this permit. We fully support this project and hope to see the air quality permit for TransGas put into expedite mode so we can get to work increasing jobs in West Virginia.
