Born July 11, 1929, at Hode, Ky., he was the son of the late James and Virgie Romans Chafins.
In addition to his parenst, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vadie Luster Chafins, daughters Eileen and Debbie Jean, a son Dennis Chafins, two sisters and a brother.
He was a minister of the Gospel in the Freewill Baptist Church for 53 years, and a current member of the Tark Hill Bread of Life Church.
He was also a former coal operator and miner.
He is survived by sons Larry Chafins of Florida, Billy (Flora) Chafins of Turkey Creek, Ky., Willis “Bo” (Kristie) Chafins and Troy (Angel) Chafins, both of Martha, daughters Betty (Curtis) Dingess of Slater’s Branch, Ky., Judy (George) Edmiston of Hatfield, Ky., Ruth (Jeff) Fuller of Pikeville, Ky. and Hazel (Andy) Dillon of Paintsville, Ky., brothers Walter Chafins of Blaine, Ky., George Chafins of Martha, Bill Chafins of Knoxville, Tenn. and Lionel Chafins of Hode, Ky., sisiters Kathleen Price of Hode, Nona Cole of Virginia, Helen Bledsoe of Barboursville, W.Va. and Myrtle Mitchell of Cleveland, Ohio, grandchildren Nathan and Dennis Dillon, Brittney (Matt) Hicks, Madison, Dakota, and Breanna Chafins, Keith Evans, Tiffany & Bill (Melissa) Fuller, Michael Chafins, Denise and Jessica Chafins, Lacy (Ashley) Edmiston, Jennifer (Chris) Hatfield, Vada and Joey (Cindy) Dingess, Billie Sue Chafins, Becky (Phil) Ellis, and Cindy and Amanda. Chafins, great-grandchildren Candace, Ashley, Austin, Melissa, Joshua, Peyton,
Hannah, Grayson, Isabella, Amber and Sebastian.
Also surviving is a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a,m, Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Bros. Lewis Hall and Albert Horn officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 6 to10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov.25, and anytime Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at the funeral home with special services nightly at 7 p.m.
