Joyce Elliott

Joyce Marcum Elliott, 58, of Mason County, formerly of Naugatuck, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2009, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington.

Born Feb. 1, 1951, at Naugatuck, he was the son of the late Alex and Garnett White

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Marcum and Connie Perkins.

She is survived by her companion of 16 years Timmy Pridemore of Mason, sons Alex Marcum of New Haven and Jimmy C. Diamond II of Mason, daughters Tonda Morrison and Christine Hedgepeth, both of Mason, a brother, Joe (Kathy) Marcum of Lenore, sisters Carol Marcum of Daytona, Fla., Minnie (Kyris) Bowling of Ivel, Ky., Robin (Phillip) Bright of Southside, and Jean Parsley of Lenore, and grandchildren Dillon, Alexis, Britney, Cody, & Callie Jo.

She was loved and will be missed by all.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at the Nolan Church of God Acts 20:28 with Bro. Jimmy Belcher officiating. Burial will follow at the Maynard Cemetery at Big Branch in Naugatuck.

Pallbearers will be Rick Morrison, Timmy Pridemore, Alex Marcum, Justin Nance, Phillip Bright and Eric White.

Visitation will be after 4:30 p.m.. Sunday at the church, with special services at 7p.m.

Magdalene Mallory

Magdalene Lindsey Ferris Huchinson Mallory, 88 of Teays Valley Nursing Center in Hurricane, formerly of Princeton and Kimball, died Friday morning Nov. 20 at the Hospice House in Huntington after a short illness.

Magdalene was born in Elkhorn to Harry and Minnie Quesenbury Lind-sey.

Other than her parents, Mrs. Mallory was preceded in death by her first husband, William Ferris of 4 years, Roy Hutcherson, 7 months, and Woodrow Mallory of 7 and half years; three brothers: Lucas Lindsey, Richard Lindsey, and Daries Lindsey; two stepsons: Roy Hutcherson, Jr. and Ronald Mallroy.

She is survived by a daughter, Billie Jean DeLung and husband Maurice of Hurricane; son Bobby “Radar” Ferris of Belfry, Ky.; sister, Sylvia Williams of Johnson City, Tenn.; brothers: Glenn (Blanche) Lindsey of Martinsville, Va., and James (Phyllis) Lindsey of Knoxville, Tenn. Other survivors are stepchildren: Nancy Lanzier, Jimmy Hutcherson, Jimmy Mallory, Connie Sigmon, Lynn Hardee, Sharon Jones, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Magdalene spent all but the last few years of her life in Kimball where she worked for JC Penney in Welch and Jones and Spry in Kimball. She was a member of the Kimball Houston United Methodist Church and a member of the Methodist Women.

Visitation will be at the Widener Funeral Home in Kimball, Tuesday, Nov. 24 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Graveside services will be held in the Roselawn Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers the children has asked that donations be made to the Hospice House of Huntington at the address, P.O. Box 464, Huntingon, WV 25709 or the Houston United Methodist Church, Kimball, WV 25301.

Wanda Lester

Wander Lester, 54 of Landviille, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 at the Logan Regional Medical Center in Logan.

She was born Nov. 15, 1955 in Man, the daughter of the late Leander and Janie Boggess Hatfield.

Funeral services will be held at the Christian Freewill Baptist Church in Christian Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 1 p.m with Rev. Michael Johnson and Pastor Joaquine Ooten officiating. Burial will follow in the Dye Cemetery in Verner.

Visitation services will be held Monday, Nov. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Christian Freewill Baptist Church with service at 7 p.m.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Earl Ferguson

Rev. Earl E. Ferguson, 77 of Horsepen, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, from Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born on June 7, 1932, in Mingo County, he was the son of the late Jesse and Stella Smith Ferguson.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by six brothers:  Garland, Kenner, Junior, Ray, Hayes, and William Ferguson.

Earl was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Greenbranch Freewill Baptist Church and he pastured many other churches. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to love and cherish his memory are: his loving wife, Mary Belcher Ferguson of Horsepen; his beloved children: Rev. Earl David (Brenda) Ferguson of Varney, Dreama (Doug) Hatfield, Jimmy (Vicki) Ferguson, Donald (Sharon) Ferguson, Ronnie (Melanie) Ferguson, Larry Ferguson, and Teresa Ferguson, all of Gilbert; his six precious grandchildren: David Jr., Gabriel, and Daniel Ferguson, Stephanie Cline, Douglas Dewayne Hatfield, and Tiffany Paynter; his five wonderful great grandchildren:  Molli and Ashton Ferguson, Hunter Cline, Payton Cline, and Haleigh Hatfield; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Friends may gather with the family at the Freedom Full Gospel Assembly House of Prayer at Hampden Sunday, Nov. 22 after 6 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 23 at the Church with the Rev. Denny May, Rev. James Ellis, and the Rev. Diamond Carter officiating.

Military grave rite services will be performed by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #141 of Belfry, Ky.

Burial will follow in the Hatfield Family Cemetery at Gilbert Terrace, Hampden.

He will be carried to his final resting place by:  David Jr., Gabriel, and Daniel Ferguson, Douglas D. Hatfield, Michael Cline, Homer Blankenship, Jr., and Audie Blankenship.

Honorary pallbearers are:  Robert Perry, Raymond Grimmett, Frenchie Duty, Diamond Carter, Lowell Smith, Garfield Hatfield, Calvin Wiley, Elmer and Bill Ferguson, and Homer Blankenship.

Donald Halliwell

Donald Halliwell, a longtime and well known Williamson resident, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2009, at the Veteran’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV.

Born in Red Jacket, WV, Don was the son of the late William R. Halliwell and Dorothy Porritt Halliwell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue Baisden Halliwell, and a brother, Roy Halliwell.

Don was a graduate of Williamson High School and he attended West Virginia University where he was a walk on with the WVU baseball team. His education was interrupted during the Korean Conflict when he entered the United States Army. Discharged a 2nd Lieutenant, Don was awarded the National Defense Medal, the UN Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. Don was a retired salesman.

Don was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Don really enjoyed the ocean and boating and he was always happy to spend time on the sea shore. He was also an aviation enthusiast and he loved to fly.

Don’s happiest moments were the ones he spent with his grandson, John, whom he loved and was so very proud of. Don’s life was enriched when he be became a grandfather. He enjoyed every moment he spent with his grandson. Don was also very devoted to his beloved daughter, Lisa, who was the apple of his eye. Don was very fond of a special young man, Lieutenant Matthew Mounts, to whom he had become a mentor and advisor as Matthew applied to and was accepted at the Untied States Naval Academy.

Don was special to many people and dear to his family. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed always.

Don is survived by his daughter, Lisa Marie Ashurst and her husband, Andrew of Williamson; a grandson, John Andrew Ashurst; a brother, Harry (Barbara) Halliwell of Annapolis, MD; nieces and nephews, Jane (Philip) Sykes, Pikeville, KY, Ann Potter, Charleston, SC, Frank Halliwell, Annapolis, MD, Cynthia Hadaway, Chestertown, MD, Phoebe Walton, Texas; Mattthew Sykes, Laura Damron, Sarah Coleman, and Stephanie Holdridge, Morehead City, NC; a first cousin, Roy (Doreen) Pearson, Manchester, England; a sister-in-law, Bobbie Charlton, Greensboro, NC; and a special friend, Barbara Mounts of Blackberry, WV and her son, Lt. Matthew Mounts.

The family will receive friends on Sunday evening, November 22, 2009, from 6 pm to 9 pm, at Weaver Mortuary in West Williamson. The Rosary Service will begin at 7:00 pm.

The Funeral Mass will be conducted on Monday morning, November 23, 2009, at 11:00 am, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Rey D. Landicho will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV. Active pallbearers include George Farley, Philip Sykes, Matthew Sykes, Jack Hubbard, Bill Wright and Paris Charles. Honorary pallbearers include R. T. Price and Bob Gilliam. Military honors will be conducted by Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 141, Belfry, KY.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 110, West Fourth Avenue, Williamson 25661.
