The West Virginia State Police arrested a teenager Monday in connection to the shooting of an electrical power line transformer that resulted in a power outage lasting almost 24 hours.
Steven Spry, 18, of Verdunville, was picked up from Tug Valley High School on warrants obtained last week for false information to a state police officer.
On Nov. 9, Spry was interviewed by Senior Trooper B.R. Moore, and allegedly gave false information regarding the investigation.
Spry was arraigned in front of Mingo County Magistrate Pam Newsome and bond was set at $1,000. Spry was then transported to Southwestern Regional Jail.
According to previous Williamson Daily News articles, the incident caused an oil leak and cost Appalachian Electric Power (AEP) approximately $1 million to restore power after close to a 24-hour power outage.
AEP is still offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the guilty parties. Individuals with such information are instructed to contact the West Virginia State Police or AEP at (866) 747-5845. All itips will be private and kept confidential.
