Members of the Action in Mingo (AIM) Group have been busy making plans for the annual “Great White Way” celebration, which will be held Nov. 27 and Nov. 28. The schedule of events are listed below.
Friday, Nov. 27: The Great White Way will begin with a gingerbread house workshop at the Brass Tree Restaurant from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Youngsters will get to make their own gingerbread houses. A $4 fee is required for ages 6 to 12. The event is sponsored by the Williamson Railroad Museum.
Saturday, Nov. 28: En-tries for the quilt contest sponsored by the Mingo County Democratic Wom-en’s Committee can be taken to Consuming Fire Ministries across the street from the Williamson Post Office. Judging will be from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Previous winning quilts are not eligible to enter. Prizes include $100 for best of show, $50 for the most traditional quilt, and $25 for the most unusual. Winners will be announced during the “Meet Santa” reception.
At 1 p.m., the Great White Way Bake-Off, sponsored by the city of Williamson and the AIM Group, will be held at the Living Water Church. The contest covers five categories: cookies, cakes, pies, candy and miscellaneous desserts. Prizes include $100 for first place, $50 for second, and $25 for third. Presentation is a must and the sweets will be left for the “Meet Santa” reception.
Between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., Goodwill Industries on 2nd Avenue will be serving cookies and punch for all who stop by the shop.
At 3:30 p.m., the Kid’s Reindeer Run will begin registration in front of the library. The run begins at 4 p.m. and is sponsored by the Tug Valley Roadrunners Club along with David Hatfield.
The Great White Way Parade will line up at 4:30 p.m. in the vicinity of the Sycamore Inn and will end with a reception at the Living Water Church. Santa will be giving children treat bags, Williamson Mayor Darrin McCormick will be serving chili, the Woman’s Club will serve hot wassell, and treats from the bake-off will be available. William-son Memorial Hospital is sponsoring the “Meet Santa” reception and Veolia Water is also helping with the event.
Additional events will take place as AIM Group members complete arrangements for them.
