WILLIAMSON — The Mingo County Health Department announced three more H1N1 Swine Flu vaccination clinics for Nov. 13, 19 and 20.
Administrator Cathy Headen said the first clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at the Kermit City Hall Community Center.
The other clinics are scheduled for 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, and from 10 a.m,. to 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20, at offices of the Mingo County Health Department, second floor of the Memorial Building in Williamson.
Headen stressed that the Swine Flu vaccinations will be administered only to individuals in the following high risk categories:
• Pregnant women.
• People who live with or care for infants younger than 6 months of age.
• Health care and emergency medical personnel.
• Anyone from 6 months through 24 years of age.
• Anyone from age 25 through 64 years of age with certain chronic medical conditions (heart disease, lung disease, asthma, kidney disease, liver disease, metabolic disease such as disabetes, anemia, and other blood disorders), or a weakened immune system.
Children aged from 6 months to 17 years must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian or must have a permission slip signed by a parent or legal guardian authorizing the Mingo County Health Department to give the child a Swine Flu vaccination. There will be no exceptions, Headen stressed.
The Mingo County Health Departments has asked that anyone attending the clinic for the purpose of receiving a swine flu vaccination to wear a shirt with short sleeves or sleeves that are big enough to be pushed to the shoulder so the vaccine can be administered.
There will be no private areas during this clinic, said the administrator, so removing the shirt is not an option. Persons going to the clinics also should be prepared to stand in line since seating will not be available, and should dress appropriately for the weather as lines of those waiting for vaccinations will be outside.
Because of the Swine Flu vaccination clinics, the Mingo County Health Department will not be giving TB (tubercular) skin tests or regular immunizations on the clinic days. The department’s normal immunization schedule will continue on Tuesday, Nov. 17.
Anyone having questions or would like more information about the clinics may contact the health department at (304) 235-3570 during regular business hours of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
