The Williamson Daily News submitted its readers’ choice for the new consolidated high schools name, colors and mascot at the regular meeting last night.

There were numerous options, but the most frequent of the numerous entries the two newspapers received were Mingo County High School as the name of the school, with black and silver as the colors for the favorite mascot — miners.

There were a variety of names entered with King Coal High and Mingo Central coming in close to Mingo County High School. Black was the most frequent color submitted by readers, while silver barely won over white. The idea of having a miners as mascot was most popular with just a couple saying something different such as Kings, Tigers, and sky riders.
