Clyde “Poppy” Collins, 88, of Fort Gay, formerly of Dan’s Branch, Borderland, died at his home Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009.

He was born in Mingo County, Sept. 27, 1921, a son of the late Mont and Braddie Williams Collins of Chattaroy.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Colleen Crowder Collins; an infant son, Earl Collins; four brothers, Nick, Victor, Jack, and Harold Collins; five Sisters, Edna Trout, Virgnia Layne, Helen McCoy, Juanita Sylvia, and Bessie Collins.

Mr. Collins was a former Mingo County magistrate, and was involved in supporting his political party for many years.

He was employed also as a process server for the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department. He was also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard, and he was a retired business owner and operator of Collins Carpet at Chattaroy and the Tug River Auction of Border-land. He was baptized at and was a member of the Chattaroy Church of God.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Marcum Collins; daughters, Jeannie R. Savage of Middleburg Heights, Ohio, and Amillia Catherine Marcum of Fort Gay; son, Randy Lee Trout of Borderland; brother, James (Connie) Collins of Columbus, Ohio; grandsons, Jason Cory Savage of Villa Rica, Ga., and Randy Jeffrey (Kristi) Trout of Belfry, Ky.; granddaughters, Rachel Leann (Kenny) Williams and Kasey Nichole Trout, both of Huntington; great-grandchildren, Austin Hicks, Tyler Trout, Isaac Williams, Kensley Williams, and Laikyn Trout; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many long cherished friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Thursday; Oct. 22, at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel with James Collins and Freddie Runyon officiating. Burial will be in the Collins Cemetery, Dan’s Branch, Borderland.

Active pallbearers will be Jason Savage, Jeffrey Trout, Mike McCoy, Paul McCoy, Teddy McCoy, and Kenny Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Big Jim Hatfield, Robert Collins, and Billy Ray Collins.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
