GREENWOOD, W.Va. (AP) — No policy changes are planned as a result of a fatal fight between two inmates at the North Central Regional Jail.

Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority spokesman Joe Thornton says an internal investigation of the jail’s procedures isn’t complete but staff appear to have acted properly during the fight.

State Police have charged 21-year-Joshua Welty Whitehair of Morgantown with premeditated murder. Whitehair is accused of killing 43-year-old Darryl Eugene Burton on Sept. 14 after the two men argued while eating breakfast in a common area.

According to the criminal complaint, Whitehair punched and kicked Burton and then pushed him backward. Burton fell and hit his head on a block wall.
