A Lenore man was arraigned in Mingo County Magistrate Court on Thursday after allegedly attempting to break into an apartment at Marrowbone to get to his girlfriend.

Mark Kirk, 42, is charged with attempted nighttime burglary, domestic battery and domestic assault.

According to the criminal complaint filed by the Mingo County Sheriffs Department, on Sept. 24, 2009, Kirk allegedly attempted to break into the apartment of Rebecca Mead to get to his live in girlfriend Joanne Well-man.

The complaint also states, that the defendant tried to get into the residence through the front door by taking his body and pushing on it, after he had already struck Wellman in the face and ribs and pushed her out of a parked car.

The court document further explains that the women felt like they were in danger and feared for the safety of three minors that were in the apartment.

Police also arrested Kirk on another outstanding warrant for domestic battery for an occurrence on June 26, 2009. Kirk supposedly choked, pushed, grabbed her hair and threw Wellman to the ground.

Mingo County Chief Magistrate Eugene Crum set Kirk’s bond at $10,000, and he was remanded to the Southwestern Regional Jail.
