Sept. 24

A open house will be held at Lenore K-8 in Lenore at 10 a.m. in the elementary computer lab.

The Williamson Utility Board will hold its second monthly meeting at 3:30 p.m. at Williamson City Hall.

The Williamson Unsafe Building Commission will hold its second monthly meeting at 4:30 p.m. at Williamson City Hall.

The Williamson City Council will hold its second monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers of city hall. The public is invited to attend.

Governor Joe Manchin will be reading a proclamation designating September 24 as United States Marshals Day in West Virginia in the Governor’s Reception Room at the West Virginia State Capitol in Charleston.

Sept. 25-27

Memorial Church of Christ will be having a revival at 7 p.m at the church located off the Dans Branch exit of U.S. 119, on Alley Branch. Hobert Kennedy will be the speaker Friday with Bud Ford speaking Saturday and special singing each night. Homecoming will be on Sunday at 11 a.m. with Aaron Davis as the speaker, Stephanie Davis as the soloist, and a homecoming dinner to follow.

God’s Lighthouse Freewill Baptist Church, Sidney, will host a Gospel Singing on Friday night at the Open Fork Community Building (Open Fork Park, Meta) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with Roger Green, Darrell Wellman, Donnie Gannon Lacy Gannon and Connie May. Featured artist will be The Wacaster Family from Florida. A footwashing and communion service will be held at the church at 6 p.m. Saturday with Darrell Wellman preaching. Sunday will feature a Homecoming Service at 11 p.m. at the church (there will be no Sunday school or evening service) with The Wacaster Family singing and Darren Wascaster preaching. Dinner will follow in the Bevins Grade School cafeteria.

The 34th Annual Fall Mountain Heritage Arts & Crafts Festival will take place from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., on Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, at Charles Town, W.Va., near Harpers Ferry. Look for more information at www.jeffersoncountywvchamber.org/festival.

The Mingo County Democrats Women’s Club will have their regular monthly meeting at the Thoroughbred Steakhouse at 6 p.m. West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant will be the special guest speaker. An informational summit on the H1N1 (swine flu) virus will be held at the East Kentucky Exposition Center at 1 p.m. The summit will last roughly two hours and feature presentations from several public officials including from Dr. William Hacker, commissioner for the Kentucky Department of Public Health, and Dr. Boyd Buser, of the Pike College School of Osteopathic Medicine, as well as panel discussions and a question-and-answer session.

The Buddy Griffin Bluegrass Band will be appearing at the Smithsonian-Harmonies Exhibit at the Brass Tree Restaurant in Williamson at 7 p.m.

The Blackberry Fire Department will be hosting a horseshoe tournament at Blackberry Fish Pond. Sponsored by the Blackberry Fire Department Ladies Auxillary, the tournament entry fee is $10 per two-member team, with cash prizes to be awarded.
