Rape among Pike grand jury charges

PIKEVILLE, Ky. - The Pike County Circuit Court Grand Jury handed down 10 indictments from their August term with charges ranging from rape in the second degree to escape from the custody of law enforcement.

The grand jury charged James Daniel Ratliff, 38 of Pikeville, with rape in the second degree after engaging in sexual intercourse with an unnamed minor who was less than fourteen years old. The offense reportedly happened on or about Aug. 27, 2007.

Other indictments and charges include the following:

-On Sept. 1, Anthony J. Puett, 25 of Jenkins, Ky., allegedly committed escape in the second degree after being charged with or convicted of a felony and escaped from a detention facility or from the custody of law enforcement. Escape in the second degree is a class D felony.

-The grand jury charged Alex Edmiston, 20 of McAndrews, Ky., with assault in the second degree. The indictment accuses Edimiston of intentionally striking Zane Jude causing serious physical injury on Aug. 22.

-Sharon Ramey Oakes, 40 of Jenkins, Ky., is accused by the grand jury for assistance program fraud by using a fraudulent medical charge from March 2006 to June 2008. Emily Robinson, 26 of Elkhorn City, is indicted separately on similar charges, but Robinson’s indictment alleges the offense occurred between March 2008 to Oct. 2008.

-Randall Williamson, 23, and Jonda Williamson, 28 both of Lick Creek, Ky., are charged by the grand jury with theft by unlawful taking, criminal mischief in the first degree, and criminal trespass in the first degree. The three offenses were allegedly committed on Feb. 22 when the accused entered the property of Billy Williamson caused damages to the property of over $1,000, and stole heaters, tools, televisions, a radio tuner and a mower from Billy Williamson.

-The grand jury charged Amanda Williamson, 29 of Stone, Ky., with theft by unlawful taking for stealing over $500 worth of merchandise from Wal-mart.

-Ernest Anthony Dotson, 42 of Hurley, Va., is charged with theft by unlawful taking after taking control of a truck which belonged to Lawrence Allen. The truck is valued at less than $300.

-Jacob T. Easterling, 30 of Elkhorn City, Ky., is charged with seven separate counts which are as follows: operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants, operating a motor vehicle with suspended or revoked license as a result of driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled substances in the first and third degrees, and trafficking in a controlled substance in the second degree and third degrees.

-The grand jury indicted Donnie Bolen theft by unlawful taking. Bolen, 32 of Ransom, Ky. allegedly stole two Ipods valued at less than $500 from Wal-Mart on or about July 20.
